It's been a long time, much has been done.

It has been an awfully long time, I have been busy with both work and at home but haven't been keeping the blog current. I have been living in the Commodore full time for just over a month now but still with limited services (no working kitchen yet).

My kitchen counters have been a bit of a pain, mostly because I couldn't get into Edmonton to buy some Vika Byske tabletops that I was planning on utilizing as countertops. When I did get into the city they didn't have any anyway. I had to improvise...

The local Home Hardware had these 24''x8' pine shelving boards that caught my eye. They are only 1/2'' thick but I bought a pair (24 bucks a piece), picked up some F clams, brackets and wood glue. With the boards on some sawhorses I glued and clamped two together and hoped my plan to make my own counters would work.

At this point I still didn't really know what I was doing but winging it has pretty much been my modus operandi the whole time.

Waiting...

Cant even see the seam.

I sanded the loving hell out of it after the glue had cured. 80g with the belt sander then 120g and 220g to finish it off.

Strapping for the bottom side as the 1/2'' board just didn't have the strength that I needed.

I bought a plunge router for all of this and had way too much fun figuring out what I could router.

With five coats of varnish on it it was ready to go on my 'island'.

And by island, I mean the 6 drawer tool chest that will serve as the main support for the jutty out piece off the furnace and be the location of all my kitchen drawers.

Same process for the sink counter, I just didn't take action shots of the build.

Now we have some super fly wallboard. Brought to you by some antique cedar siding and some hardnosed bartering at a re-store.

I have a bunch of stuff on the go that haven't been getting updates on so this is all a bit random but shows some of my progress.

Shower fixtures.

For a bathroom counter I went with a Hemnes bedroom dresser from IKEA, hacked the legs off, modded the drawers for the plumbing and there you have it. Cheap as frack while looking like it kinda-sorta belongs there.

Hacked up drawer.

I picked this sink up really cheap at Home Hardware, the faucet on the other hand...

When I asked for this paint to be mixed, the lady doing it asked me a few times if I was sure because it would be ''really orange''. Looks great in the end but I cant have the flash on my camera on when taking picture in there.
Shelf and Frack mirror in my shower.

Bathroom mirror.

An attempt to curb sharpness.

I at least have some kind of living space going on. Picked up the couch and TV on the cheap during the boxing day sales. Trim is starting to go up on the ceiling and floors.

Window trim.

Another shot of my toolbox.

Light above the island/jutty thing/peninsula.

Because, why the hell not.

And my sink in its spot. Note the bed behind it, my sleeping situation has been interesting to say the least these past weeks.

Galvanized bathroom, great for a guy that can't touch metal.

The beginnings of the walls of steel. I ordered the galvanized in the wrong size so most of the sheets had to be cut from 1/2'' to 3/4'' every time but in the end it all worked out. Not having a definitive plan going into it all I think it turned out much better than it could have with all things considered.

I am wrapping the sheeting around to the laundry area, once the plumbing is all working and I re-route the drain for the washing machine.

So close I can feel it.

Tile and laminate, oh my oh my!

Kicking off where I last was. MORE BATHROOM WORK!

From this drab and totally destroyed junk to...

TILE!

More tile!

And laminate flooring!

My hands are covered in semi-hardened flooring glue... can't type, must shower.

Tomorrow... grout and I start working on my bathroom counter.

The dog days of drywall

Things have been slow as I work on stuff that needs to sit overnight before working on it again and or stuff that I just have no idea how to do. See: shower pan, drywalling, taping and mudding.

Finally, FU@*!NG FINALLY I have the shower pan ready for tile. After so much messing around and many many f@&k ups I have it ready. More pictures were taken of this process but I am not sharing, bad memories, very bad memories.

Drywalling! and a shot of my new (built in 68') table saw.

Awwww, yeah!

Also, you see that wall to the back at the right? That wall is earmarked for the picture below. I even added additional support so I could hang it right in the middle of the wall.
